Obviously there are many, MANY serious issues with Fate: The Winx Saga that I am not qualified to speak on, so I am not going to. However, I would like to draw attention to an issue that isn’t being talked about as much.

Since when is femininity “uncool”? Since when do you have to be edgy and wear all black and put down other girls to be a badass?

I loved the original cartoon because it showed young girls that you can love fashion and shopping and “girly things” without sacrificing your intelligence, integrity, and, for lack of a better word, badass-ery. I loved it because it showed that friendship and lifting other girls up is cool.

Why does “badass woman” equate to “mean girl” in popular fiction?

^That is what Winx Club is supposed to be. I wish Hollywood would stop perpetuating the idea that in order to be a strong, independent woman, you have to be “edgy”, mean, or “not like other girls”. The idea of a girl that’s better than others because she’s “not like other girls” is a response to feminism. It says, “You’re right, women are strong, but we have a right to decide WHICH women are strong.”

In conclusion, I’m tired of “girliness” being equated with being shallow, petty, weak, dumb, and selfish. We have to demand better. Feminism is wanting empowerment and validity for ALL WOMEN, no matter how “basic” their interests are. I can love clothes and romcoms and “girly” things and still be a badass. You can buy your Starbucks and wear bright colors and still be a powerful woman. You can have a significant other, and guess what? You’re still a badass. You’re still amazing, you’re still strong, you’re still YOU because having a bf/gf or not having one does not determine YOUR worth. You can be who YOU are, and that’s powerful on its own.

I don’t know how we got from Winx Club to here but yeah.

Edit: just to clarify, I am not saying that the show itself intended to spread this message. All I am saying is that it should be ok to have “girly”,colorful, kind characters (of any gender! Not just female) that can still be tough and kickass. That’s what I would have preferred for the characters in the show; however, this is just my opinion. If you disagree, and you like the “edgy” aspect, that is ok. I like PLENTY of edgy shows and characters! My post was merely meant to express my opinion on the tone and the bitter dialogue between the once supportive and positive characters of THIS SPECIFIC SHOW.

Hearing the writers for Fate:Winx Saga say they wanted a more "realistic" take for the series is genuinely so funny when you look at what actually ended up in the show.

Like, what about Winx Club was so unrealistic to you? A group of women being close friends with each other and getting along? Having more than one main woman of color? Male love interests that are kind, good people? Female characters that don't fight over a boy? A girl having a good relationship with her adopted parents? A blond girl with stereotypically feminine traits/interests who isn't evil or somehow shamed for being girly? A black girl who's also a princess?

What about these aspects of the original show was unrealistic to you?

fate winx saga defenders making posts: look guys i know they whitewashed the diverse characters, had one black character who was stripped of all her interesting characterization, made fat jokes about the only fat character, and made the evil characters gay on top of butchering all the characterizations and making a girl- and female-friendship-positive show revolve around petty drama and girls being mean and jealous bUT–

Not gonna watch Fate Winx Saga, mainly cause all the whitewashing; but a friend that is watching mentioned that they turned Stella into the Regina George of Alphea and Aisha is just there to be the support.

So, they destroyed Bloom and Stella friendship, one of the best one in cartoons, and added the cliche rivalry. And the only poc character is basically a support and they removed her background story.

Seriously??! If I was the original creator, I probably be crying in a corner seeing how they butchered my girls.
